Flyer April 2023 – English version

Let’s move forward together

Dear fellow citizens,

On June 11th, you are called to elect a new municipal council. A forthcoming election is always a moment to pause and reflect. Together with our coalition partner, we have faced the great challenges of the municipality of Steinfort in recent years and have overcome all adversities such as COVID-19 or supply shortages due to the Ukraine war.

In the coming weeks of the election campaign, we will therefore draw our conclusion. However, I would like to point out some major projects that we have implemented. After years of struggle by the previous CSV-DP majority, we have created facts with the construction of a new swimming pool as well as a small and large sports hall. The construction work is progressing well, and the swimming pool and small sports hall will be ready for occupancy at the beginning of 2024. After the subsequent completion of the large sports hall, the needs for school and club sports will be secured for the next decades.

In addition, with the partial redesign of the “Centre Culturel Al Schmelz” and the planning of a new event hall, we are also taking into account the cultural development of the municipality. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-May.

In addition, we are currently pushing ahead with the planning for the construction of a new school complex and have started building a multi-family house for the socially disadvantaged in the center of Hagen.

Regarding the acquisition of land for the construction of a new fire station, we have finally managed to conclude a sales agreement for a plot of land at the exit of Steinfort. Now it is a matter of reclassifying the land and realizing the construction of the new building. With the demolition of the outdated fire station, this plot of land would then be available for the construction of the new care home.

Regarding road construction work, we have completed the Rue de Hagen in Kleinbettingen, among others, and made the square in front of the Hagen/Kleinbettingen cemetery more attractive.

My thanks also go to the residents who are affected by the redevelopment work in the “Cité Herrenfeld” and who show understanding on a daily basis. Regarding traffic calming measures and improving the quality of life in our residential areas and streets, following an initial mobility workshop in 2022, we are now clarifying possible traffic calming measures with the residents. Our top priority in road traffic is to protect the weakest, namely pedestrians and cyclists. Therefore, our traffic concept aims to make public spaces safer, promote sustainable mobility, and improve access to public transport. You may have noticed that we are currently building additional bus stops and pedestrian crossings in some places in the municipality, as well as renewing existing ones.

In addition, we will also be creating a safe bicycle connection from Hagen to Steinfort. The municipal council has already approved the necessary financial resources to enable a path for cyclists along the pond. Regarding the conversion of the old railway line “Attertlinn” into a bike path, we have received confirmation from the responsible government authority that the planning is almost completed, and construction will start soon.

In the past, citizen participation has always been very important for us. All the projects brought to the municipal council for a vote have always adapted in advance due to the input of our associations, advisory commissions, or you as citizens. When we worked on our “Pa(c)t vum Zesummenliewen”, it was you who advocated for the creation of a community center. As a result, as Board of Aldermen, we did not hesitate to commission an architect to renovate the building of “Al Schoul” in Steinfort on Rue de Luxembourg. In this historic building, a coffee/community center will soon be created. The concept for this community center is currently being developed by volunteers from the municipality itself.

In the above few lines, I wanted to give you a little taste of the upcoming weeks and months of the election campaign with the projects we have pushed forward. I am looking forward to answering your questions and presenting our ideas for the future of the municipality of Steinfort with its 4 villages, together with our entire team. Do not hesitate to approach us. Our motto remains “#Zesummen fir d’Gemeng Stengefort”.

Sammy Wagner

A competent team for the municipality of Steinfort

When it comes to putting together a team for the municipal elections, it is especially important to bring together people who, each in their own field, have the necessary skills to move our municipality forward and ensure the well-being of our citizens. The 11 candidates running in the election bring, through their professional or voluntary commitment, the necessary experience in the areas of education, youth, senior citizens, mobility, citizen participation, sustainability, social cohesion, equal opportunities, culture, sports, and volunteering. I look forward to presenting our team to you in more detail in the coming weeks, along with our lead candidates, Sammy Wagner and Marianne Dublin-Felten, and to discussing our ideas with you and putting them into practice.
